The REAL difference between Amateurs & Professionals.
What you’ll learn in this article: Why some employees perform poorly at their work, some do average & very few of them shine like a star.
One silly thing, that we all did at least one time in all of our lives, whether by knowingly or unknowingly is — Blaming the other person for something. Blaming as a way to vent our anger or disagreement is a very dangerous thing to do. Until these 27 years of my life, I’ve been to both sides of the blaming game, i.e. blaming others or taking full responsibility upon myself.
We all need work to sustain ourselves and our family in a good manner. Because without productivity we lose our value in the marketplace. And the best part is, the market as a whole is neither good or bad, its just a market. It is like the most ethical unbiased judge in the whole world. Because it always delivers the exact right value to the person without any form of discrimination and doesn't care about age, sex, color, religion, or ethnicity. Take, for example- world’s best footballer — Christiano Ronaldo or world's biggest hedge fund manager- Sir Ray Dalio, their monetary compensation is way up high in the sky, and it happened because they deliver their best performance in the world stage (Market). Period.
Now to make things simple, we all do some job in one way or another and get paid accordingly to our service. In this post, I will distinguish 3 types of employees that can be found in any type of organization, no matter you are in India, America, Russia or Australia. The pattern is surprisingly similar in every country. Why ?! Because all the companies are running a race in the marketplace in order to provide a valuable product or service to make this world a better place. And in order to do that everyone needs a good team to carry out the work. Just like football or cricket or any other team sports.
Every organisations have mainly 3 types of employees — Bad, Average & Superstar. Cause I’ve been through all these 3 categories. In my first job, I was so terrible that my manager got literally tired of threatening me for taking too much of breaks during the work time. On my 2nd job, I got fired within 1 month of work, fast forward few years when I was working as a salesman for an automobile insurance company where I became the top performer in my state, West Bengal, you can find the pic on my Facebook profile. I am sharing my roots of what happens when someone gets trained well and starts focusing on their work more rather than blaming the situation or any person. From all these years of experience there comes a fine pattern that is clear and pristine. Here are the Top 4 traits of all the 3 types of employees that can be found anywhere in this world.
- Bad employee — They are the ones who don't have any idea why they are doing this job, no clear purpose in life, have many bad habits, gets emotional very easily, no training, no people skills, disengaged in their work environment. They belong to the 10% of all employees in the company. They are just in the wrong place. They would do better somewhere else.
- Average Employee — They are ones in the majority, which is around 85%–87% of all employees. They have a fair amount of work knowledge, get the job done most of the time, always get in and out of the office on time. They train most of the days but skip sometimes.
- Superstars — They belong to the Top 5% of all employees. They work smart, takes on full responsibility to get anything done ethically. They are a valuable asset to the company because they take on big risks and religiously execute good ideas making the company grow and expand. They get highly paid with lots of benefits and remunerations. One similar trait of all the Top High Performers, is that they never blame anyone for their outcome no matter it's bad or good. They train each and every day and lead a very disciplined lifestyle with lots of good habits. They dress well, are always emotionally stable, help others. Extremely professional in their conduct, once they give their word to do or complete something it gets done. Nothing can distract them. They are those few people of focus, commitment and sheer will power.
No matter in which quadrant you are in now, there is always a scope for improvement. And perform better cause market place will always reward the people who bring in good value to the market and in other peoples lives.
Be Great.
