Sounds familiar, this is famous headlines of thousands of articles nowadays over the internet to attract you towards their website and increase their sales. Though I won't say its good or bad, as I’ve personally many times searched over the internet when I felt like I was low in confidence levels. And most of the time, I would say 99.99 % of the time, the information I received from those sites is not of any use.
Just after getting inside the college for the first time, I badly wanted some part-time job to support myself cause I wanted to earn money and get jacked up physically as most of my college friends used to go to the gym and were extremely well built. Now I won't lie, I really used to admire them but imagine this, a young guy with no knowledge of earning money freshly out of school, no idea of how to build a good physique, but his eyes are full of big dreams and hopes. So it is, natural for a guy like that, to get all the confidence he can get and go achieve all his dreams.
However, in the real world, it doesn't work that way because down the line the biggest thing I’ve learned that CONFIDENCE doesn't come instantly to you from any source or shop. No matter how much money you pay in millions or billions. It will never come up to you instantly like this other website badly wants to make you believe.
Confidence is the outcome when you have properly learned a skill and mastered it. Just like riding a bicycle, if you don't know how to ride a bicycle, then no matter how much you read about confidence-building tips and tricks it won't just help. You have to go through the process, practice and then practice again, fall down then rise up, fall down again and then rise up, you gotta do your own trial and error to learn the skillset which you want to learn.
But once you learn properly how to ride a bicycle when you can do it anywhere, anytime, and in any corner of the world with ease.
Confidence can be broken down into 4 Basic steps of Learning —
- Unconscious Incompetence — The mental state where you don't know or have no idea about the skillset, you want to learn.
- Conscious Incompetence — The state where You are now aware but you are incompetent at it. For example, you know the Chinese language (Mandarin) exist but you can't write or speak it.
- Conscious Competence — You develop a skill in that area, but you have to think about it while doing it.
- Unconscious Competence — With lots and lots of practice you have mastered the skillset and it has become a second nature of yours. You can perform it easily without even thinking about it.
This is the biggest reason why I say, “Every master was once a complete disaster.”
Because without failing you cannot learn the skillset and if you don't have a skillset you are not going to get confidence. It's all interconnected like a spider web. From now on don't get carried away next time you see some instant confidence-building tips and tricks. As now you know the real science behind how it forms inside us and stays with practice in the long run.
Be Great.
